Volunteer Opportunities
Support from volunteers is essential to Mudita Sanctuary as Ariane can’t take care of all the animals and the sanctuary tasks by herself.
There are four different ways you can volunteer for us. If you come on-site it’s a great opportunity to get up close and personal with our resident guests and get a really rewarding experience.
Before applying to be a volunteer please read all the information provided. The contact information is below.
Read some (Full-Time) volunteer reviews below.
Part-Time
If you live nearby and you want to get involved, commit a couple of hours per day or a few of days a week/month to help us, there’s always something to do. We ask part-time volunteers to come at least twice per month.
This is what you can expect when you volunteer part-time:
You can help out anytime between 10am and 7pm, 7 days a week. We ask that you come for a minimum of 3 hours.
It’s difficult to predict what we will need help with on any given day but the fields always need clearing, the stalls need to be cleaned and some fences need repairing. We are also open to any suggestions!
The work might be considered physically intensive to some.
Wellies/boots and clothes that can get dirty are a must.
Working gloves
Weather appropriate clothing and accessories (sunglasses and hat to work in the sun, waterproof gear when it’s raining, …)
An open mind and a can-do attitude!
If you help out for a full day you will enjoy an organic, plant based lunch
No accommodation is provided for part-time volunteers.
Although our residents are mostly calm, patient and happy to be around humans, they remain animals and can be unpredictable. Common sense and care is expected from our volunteers. If you feel like something isn’t safe, or if you’re not sure how to approach an animal, Ariane is always there to assist and help. We do not ask the volunteers to do things that are outright dangerous.
If you are pregnant, severely ill or severely disabled, it might not be wise to volunteer. However, you are more than welcome to visit the sanctuary.
No experience needed. A love of animals is necessary. Minimum age is 18. Minors permitted only on approval.
Full-Time
Volunteers who help full-time stay at the sanctuary. There is a maximum of 2 volunteers at the sanctuary at any time and we require any full-time volunteers to stay for a minimum of 1 month.
This is what you can expect when you volunteer full-time:
Animals need to be fed and taken care of every day so you are expected to help out on the weekend as well.
The work day typically starts around 8 am and ends around 7 pm. However there are many hours in the day where you are free to relax or play with the animals as you please. Some days might be shorter and others might be longer, working with animals is often unpredictable so being flexible is an asset.
The work includes, and is not limited to, feeding the animals twice a day, cleaning the stalls, clearing the fields of poop, cleaning cat litters, bringing hay where needed, filling water tubs, fixing fences, garden work, raking, socialising with the animals, etc.
We work in all weather conditions, although in bad conditions the work might be limited to the essentials.
The work might be considered physically intensive to some. You will certainly leave here more toned and muscled if you’re not used to working out a lot!
Wellies/boots and clothes that can get dirty are a must.
Working gloves
Slippers or house shoes
Weather appropriate clothing and accessories (sunglasses and hat to work in the sun, waterproof gear when it’s raining, …)
An open mind and a can-do attitude!
All meals are provided. They are plant-based and organic. Lunch is prepared and shared together. For breakfast and dinner, volunteers have their own kitchen (which they share amongst themselves) to prepare meals as they wish. Ingredients are provided.
Typically, we have breakfast *after* the animals have been fed in the morning, so that’s around 9 am. Of course you can have breakfast first, as long as you are ready to start at 8am.
Since you’re staying at the sanctuary, you get your own unit which includes a room, bathroom and living area.
